At SUMMIT Early Learning, children learn beyond the classroom through active, hands-on outdoor play. Our playgrounds and nature-based spaces encourage children to move, explore, create, and connect with the world around them.
Outdoor play offers experiences that are different from those children have indoors. With more room to move and explore, children can follow their curiosity, test their abilities, take appropriate risks, and discover new ways to interact with the world around them.
Children can:
- Climb, slide, swing, and balance
- Run and play active games
- Dig, build, and create
- Explore nature and natural materials
Connecting children with nature
Nature-based play encourages children to observe, investigate, use their senses, and build a meaningful connection with the outdoors. Natural materials also inspire open-ended play and creativity.
Fresh air is part of the day! Time outside supports children’s physical development, social-emotional well-being, creativity, curiosity, and connection with nature.
Creativity & imagination at work
Unlike toys or equipment with one specific purpose, open-ended outdoor materials allow children to decide what happens next. A stick can become a tool, a bridge, a magic wand, or part of a structure. A patch of dirt can become a garden, a construction site, or the setting for an imaginary adventure.
Through this kind of play, children learn to develop ideas, make plans, experiment, adapt, and solve problems. They are not only playing; they are practicing creativity and flexible thinking.
